Blog Post #40 - Questionnaire

Next week, I will finalize all of my filming, indicating that I will finally be filming my interviews! To do so, I needed to write a questionnaire with examples of questions and topics for each interviewee to think and respond to so I can film sufficient content of each person to ensure the proper length for my documentary. Some will be broad, some will be narrow and selective, this is important because it allows the interviewees to interpret the questions and topics in their own ways, letting the interviews each be unique and personal to each person.

To write this, I created a Microsoft Word document that clearly lays out all of the topics and keeps them organized. This will make it easy to read and can be sent prior to the interviews electronically to allow the interviewees to give them extra time to think and prepare before the filming date. It will be sent into a group chat with all of my interviewees so that they may all have this opportunity and time.

I wanted to create two separate ones, one for the coaches and one for the players. They experience very different things and perspectives, therefore meaning they should discuss different things with some things aligning. The similar things will allow me to build a conversational atmosphere between the interviews that is comfortable for the viewers. These questions will also be majority open-ended to encourage lengthy answers that can be edited to fill time and fit time.

For the players, I chose to focus on more of their view and outlook on volleyball. These included the mental and physical exertion of being a daughter, a student, and an athlete, as well as their personal experiences that focus on how they grew as players and people. For the coaches questionnaire, I prioritized how they see their players and what matter to them as a coach when seeing their team go through different things.
