Blog Post #48 - Filming Update #3

My filming is moving quickly. It has taken a long time as well as a lot of work to put this project together from my initial idea down to my final clip coming up soon. I am nearly finished with just one filming day remaining, I ran into many difficulties per usual but worked well around them and helped meet all my goals!

In all of my initial planning thought my blog, I many times discussed the idea of having the team practicing in the backcourt of the interview in a shallow focus to make the interviews informational yesterday entertaining for viewers. Here, I was able to do so and it turned out perfectly and exactly as an intended to. The effect of this is increased audience enjoyment and extra detail to tie the documentary together as it moves forward.

Once I completed my interviews, I decided to set up a camera to film the team's practice while also giving a microphone to different players at varying times. This was an example of an on the spot decision that directors make to benefit the outcome of the documentary. The idea of this lets the audience hear the perspectives and personal thoughts of the players during actual play which is significant to the ideals of the entire excerpt and my goals of changing perspectives concerning youth sports. For these, I need to ensure I find good, short clips to not lose the audiences interest quickly and turn the volume of the microphone down to not make it overwhelming.

Going off of the last idea, I wanted to include a few messed up plays within practice to show the point of practice that is so heavily enforced at Elevate, making mistakes. With this, I wanted to use clips with the players wearing microphones so I can display how the girls pick each other up in between struggles and convey how deeply meaningful that is to each and every athlete. An example of my usage for this is that I could place this after an interview clip of Alyssa Barto where she speaks about the support of the team and how much they mean to her.
