Blog Post #53 - Beginning Editing

Now that my filming has been completed, I can begin my editing process. This takes quite a lot of time as I have to ensure every meticulous detail is as perfect as it can be. This includes the cutting and visual editing of clips, lining them up in proper order, editing transitions, adding score, and lastly the layering of sounds. As I go through this, I will be using the tools in the Apple Photos App and CapCut.

First, in the Photos App, many editing tools are offered, ranging from the picture itself to the length of each clip. So, I will being by going through each and every video to cut it to the part I need. This will prevent any dragging content and unnecessary long takes that will bore the audience. From here, I can use the clips I have pre-selected for the documentary and use the visual editing tools such as brightness or contrast to improve the quality and lighting of the videos in need of it. It will not be many of the clips as the camera automatically adjusted to the settings in cinematic mode whilst filming. But, for those which need it, this will better the overall look of the documentary and improve its appearance.

Next, I will focus on lining up the clips. This will begin by me importing all of the clips from Photos into CapCut at what I think would be best. From here, I will spend a lot of time rearranging the clips and adding transitions until I find what will work best with my specific videos and goals concerning the final outcome of the project. This process is lengthy because of this specific step as it requires repetitive trial and error until I end up with something I am happy with.

From here, I will begin layering in scores and sounds. First, I will mute all video clips that will have a score or voiceover from the interview on it. Then, I will find and cut all the interview audio I want to cover other clips, and extract it from said video. Last, I will extract the scores I choose for the correct scenes, import them, and line them up, as well as the voiceovers, properly as needed. This will promise  that all sounds match the clips necessary and improve the audiences auditory experience.
