Blog Post #58 - Editing Difficulties
So far in my editing phase, I have faced many struggles. From the editing software glitching to the syncing of sound, I have had a lot of problems that challenged my skill set. I wanted to utilize this blog post to discuss these and how they made me better as a producer and film content creator through them.
The first struggle I faced, was the glitching of my editing software. I used CapCut to edit my documentary excerpt together because it has so many provincial and useful tools which contribute to the overall visual and auditory appearance of my excerpt. But, while reorganizing all of my clips, the software would glitch out and bug, removing all of the work I had put together so far and forcing me to restart. While difficult and annoying, this resulted to be for the best because the unconscious decisions and changes I made having to redo things only made it better than be before and showed a massive improvement.
The second struggle I faced was syncing all of my sounds and audios together to line up with my content. As I decided to use so many overlays in the middle of my interviews and change angles repeatedly, I did not realize how difficult it would be to sync up all sounds so that it matched the appearance of the interviews so they would be speaking with the audio without any delay. It took hours to get it right between all 11 interview scenes and to incorporate sound bridges to link content while still keeping it matched up. This was massively time-consuming but resulted well and was completed, even with the struggle, bettering my patience.
My third struggle, was deciding which clips to put in the highlight compilation. The goal of this was to create something that showed the talent of the team and incorporated their competitiveness so I had to ensure I chose good clips that fit well but also weren't repetitive. Again, this took a lot of time to select between as I had so much content filmed but it came together with much trial and error and patience in focusing on the what matches and what would stand out.
Overall, my editing process thus far has been difficult to say the least. I have much left to do still to complete this documentary excerpt but my current status is already significantly better than what was initially anticipated. Although, there is still, and always, much room for improvement.
